Sheffield (AP) – Defending champion Mark Selby was surprisingly eliminated in the round of 16 at the Snooker World Championship. The 38-year-old Englishman was beaten by the Chinese Yan Bingtao by 10:13 on Saturday evening in Sheffield.
The world number one Ronnie O’Sullivan had previously reached the quarterfinals at the Crucible Theater. The Englishman easily won his match against Mark Allen from Northern Ireland with 13:4. A direct duel between the co-favorites Selby and O’Sullivan could only have come about in the final of the Snooker World Championship, which ends on May 2nd.
