PCIe 5.0 was announced in 2019 and is just beginning to roll out to computers. The expected release date for PCIe 6.0 is 2025. As for PCI-Express 7.0, the first products with this interface will be released in 2028. Today, the developers from PCI-SIG talked about the technical characteristics of the upcoming new product.

PCI-Express 7.0

For the past 30 years, PCI-SIG has been at the forefront of technological innovation. Its PCI Express (PCIe) specification has maintained its de facto position as the interconnect of choice and a critical component of computing continuity. At the PCI Special Interest Group 2022 Developer Conference, the company celebrated its 30th anniversary by announcing the next evolution of PCIe technology: the PCI-Express 7.0 specification.

  • The new interface should provide native data transfer rates of 128 GT/s and up to 512 GB/s in both directions via an x16 configuration.
  • Maintaining PCI-Express 7.0 compatibility with all previous generations of this technology.
  • Use of PAM4 signalling (pulse width modulation with 4 levels).
  • Continued implementation of low latency and high reliability.
  • Focus on improving all channel parameters.
  • Increased energy efficiency.
